About UniScoops
Let’s stop gatekeeping academia.
UniScoops is a free newsletter that makes academia fun, digestible, and accessible! The goal of UniScoops is to make critical thinking and academia accessible to all, regardless of background and school type, whilst also widening participation in higher education more broadly.
UniScoops does this by providing a whistle-stop breakdown of university-level topics, before then providing a detailed list of some key takeaways, as well as some prompts to help you think critically and independently about the content.
Whether you’re a secondary school student dipping your toes into the waters of higher education, or a sixth-form student looking to improve your shots at getting into university, our carefully curated newsletters, articles, and resources are designed to spark curiosity and equip you with the tools needed to approach academia with confidence and intellect.
Our Story
UniScoops was set up by two students at the University of Oxford to help tackle inequality in education.
We recognised the challenges that many students across the country face when delving into academic subjects, especially just before higher education. The intricate jargon, complex theories, daunting research papers, and massive textbooks (many of which are trapped behind a paywall) can often be overwhelming, leaving many feeling disconnected from the very knowledge that has the power to transform their perspectives and inspire them to take a route into university and academia. Our mission is to bridge this gap by translating intricate concepts into language that resonates with students, empowering them to not only understand but to actively engage with academic subjects, supercharging their critical thinking skills.
